Meeting to discuss Commuter Rail crossing between Rindge Ave and Danehy Park

The City of Cambridge is studying options to build a walking and bicycle connection across the Commuter Rail tracks in North Cambridge. This would improve walking and bike access in these ways:
- Give residents along Rindge Avenue safer and quicker access to Danehy Park, Fresh Pond Mall, and Fresh Pond Reservation than current paths
- Give neighbors south of the tracks better, safer and quicker access to Alewife Station, Russell Field, Alewife Reservation, and the Minuteman Trail
- Connect two of the city’s largest sports areas: Danehy Park and Russell Field
- Make it easier to get to Danehy Park from Alewife Station
The meeting on Wednesday is to discuss options for crossing the tracks, either by a bridge for people going over the trains, or a bridge for the trains to allow a path underneath, similar to the Yerxa Road underpass next to the basketball and tennis courts on Pemberton Street. https://goo.gl/maps/t2PACdz3kGsDULqw7
The Alewife Study Group, as well as the Fresh Pond Residents’ Alliance (representing neighbors to the south of the tracks), believe a well-designed underpass would be better than a bridge over the tracks.
An underpass would be easier to clean in winter and can be made wide to let bikes and walkers keep safely apart. However, any crossing is better than none.

Cambridge Climate Conversation about Home Electrification
Wednesday, June 28 5:30-7:30 PM
St. John the Evangelist Church, 2254 Mass Ave. (Walk down the path to the left of the church and use the entrance on the right. The meeting is in the basement, where COVID testing was held.) Parking is available.
Share your questions and stories about heat pumps, water heaters, electrical panel upgrades, induction stoves, and more. Join your neighbors for a discussion about home electrification. Share your
questions and concerns about electrifying your home or building. If you have gone through the process, please join and share what you have done or are planning to do. The City of Cambridge has a Net Zero Action Plan with a goal to make Cambridge carbon-neutral by 2050.
